Welcome to Sierra Resource Conservation District’s Community Groundwater Program for the Auberry and Prather area!
We hope that whether you are a landowner, business owner, resident or just a member of the public that you will want to participate. The Sierra RCD has posted information to describe the purpose of the community groundwater program. The program is NOT about having water meters installed on our wells. It is however an effort to assure that there will always be a plentiful supply of quality water for all of us.
Over the next year Sierra RCD will have a series of community meetings which will be held in Prather at the Sierra Unified School District office at 33367 N. Auberry Road – across from Ace Hardware. The meetings will start be from 6:30 to 8:00 pm – and will allow for the opportunity to share information that will help all of us to better understand the quality and quantity of our groundwater resources. The dates for the meetings are the following:
· Thursday, February 3, 2011 – 6:30-8:00 pm
· Thursday, April 7, 2011 – 6:30-8:00 pm
· Thursday, June 2, 2011 – 6:30-8:00 pm
· Thursday, August 4, 2011 – 6:30-8:00 pm
Thursday, October 6, 2011 - 6:30-8:00 pm
The project work plan, timeline and maps are available here.

Community Groundwater Meeting February 3rd
The Sierra Resource Conservation District of eastern Fresno County will be holding their second public meeting related to groundwater supplies in the Auberry/Prather area. The first meeting held last December was to introduce residents to the purpose of the program. This meeting will share general information of the challenges related to water quality and quantity – as well as an opportunity for residents to gain a better understanding of our groundwater resources. The meeting will be held on Thursday, February 3rd from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Sierra Unified School District Office, 33367 North Auberry Road in Prather (across from Ace Hardware).
Over the year Sierra RCD will continue to hold a series of community meetings at the school district’s headquarters on Thursday April 7th, June 2nd and August 4th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.
Groundwater is the primary source of water available in our area for homeowners, for businesses and schools. Water management planning in the fractured-rock foothill area in eastern Fresno County has been virtually non‐existent; but, is a critical component to maintaining reliable and sustainable water resources for all residents in our foothill and mountain communities.
We hope that whether you are a landowner, business owner, resident or just a member of the public that you will continue to participate. The Sierra RCD has a website for the program in which information will be available: www.usjrwatershed.org.

HOW IMPORTANT IS A RELIABLE SUPPLY OF GROUNDWATER FOR OUR COMMUNITIES?
You are invited to attend a public meeting to find out!
When: Thursday, December 2nd – 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
Where: Sierra Unified School District’s Board of Trustees Room
33367 N Auberry Road, Prather (across from Ace Hardware)
The Sierra Resource Conservation District of eastern Fresno County is inviting residents to attend a public meeting related to groundwater supplies in the Auberry/Prather area.
The purpose of the meeting is to introduce residents to the challenges associated with maintaining a reliable supply of groundwater for beneficial use. The meeting will provide a background and history of groundwater supplies and studies conducted – as well as the purpose and benefits of this program for residents.
Groundwater is the primary source of water available in our area for private use. Water management planning in the fractured-rock foothill area in eastern Fresno County has been virtually non‐existent; but, is a critical component to maintaining reliable and sustainable water resources for the citizens of our foothill and mountain communities within the Sierra Nevada.
Through a grant awarded to Sierra RCD by the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) under the Local Groundwater Management Assistance Act of 2000, we will have the opportunity to further determine how best to maintain a reliable and sustainable supply of groundwater for our communities with public participation.

Upper San Joaquin River
Watershed Program Completed
The Upper San Joaquin River Stewardship Program presented their final report to the Central Sierra Watershed Committee in Oakhurst CA on May 26, 2010. A link to a copy of the final presentation and final report in PDF format are provided under the Watershed Assessment tab. Due to budget constraints and two unexpected work stoppages of almost one year, they were unable to follow through with the original plan for this grant. However they were able to focus on community and outreach to bring together a report on key resource considerations for the Upper San Joaquin River Watershed. There are several original maps with new information and insights provided in the report.
They would like to thank all of the organizations and residents who have supported them through the completion of this project. Your support has allowed them to create and present a comprehensive report on the needs of the Upper San Joaquin River Watershed.
Sincerely,
Steve Haze Jeannie Habben Brandi Miller

Groundwater Project Underway in eastern Fresno County
In September, the Sierra Resource Conservation District (SRCD) was awarded a grant and executed an agreement with the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) under the Local Groundwater Management Assistance Act of 2000. The objective of the project, Capacity Building for Future Groundwater Management Planning in Eastern Fresno County, is to establish a hydrogeologic database and well monitoring protocols to assist in the future development of a Groundwater Management Plan (GWMP) for the fractured-rock foothill area of eastern Fresno County. The project will span 12 months, and includes the geographical area of Auberry and Prather.
This project continues and builds upon efforts established through the Upper San Joaquin River Stewardship Program (www.usjrwatershed.org) that has been funded by DWR. The residents and property owners of the Auberry-Prather area – as well as the general public are invited to actively participate. It is anticipated that an informational meeting will be held in late October/early November. Subsequent meetings are expected to be held every two months.
Water management planning in the fractured-rock foothill area in eastern Fresno County is virtually non‐existent but is a critical component to maintaining reliable and sustainable water resources for the citizens of our foothill and mountain communities within the Sierra Nevada.
With data collected and protocols identified, this will assist not only the County – but, our local communities in the future to be able to build upon and create a comprehensive ground water management plan for eastern Fresno County. Along with DWR, Sierra RCD will be working in partnership with the Fresno County Board of Supervisor’s Water Advisory Committee (WAC) which includes local representatives from the Auberry/Prather area – along with the County’s Department of Public Works and Planning.
This project will be managed locally in Auberry by SRCD. For additional information please contact:
